UB40, featuring the original members Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, will return to New Zealand this summer with the enormously successful Red Red Wine Vineyard Tour that sold out venues across the country in 2016.
This summer they will be performing in two new venues: Martinborough’s Luna Estate on 2 January and at Villa Maria Estate in Blenheim on 7 January, as well as returning to Waitiri Creek at Gibbston, near Queenstown on 5 January.
Fans are urged to act without delay as these venues are expected to sell out. Over 35,000 people enjoyed their popular brand of reggae in January with some shows selling out in hours.
Tickets will go on sale to Jacman Entertainment and Eventfinda subscribers 9am Monday, 29 August. Subscribe at www.jacman.co.nz. General public sale commences 9am Wednesday, 31 August.
“The Red Red Wine Vineyard tour was a huge hit last summer" says promoter Jackie Sanders, "the band is thrilled to bring their massive 2 hour show to the Martinborough and Marlborough regions for the first time, as well as to return to Queenstown.”
The original line-up of UB40 with Ali, Astro and Mickey enjoyed huge success over a period of 30 years from 1979 to 2008, with #1 albums, multiple gold and platinum selling albums, Grammy nominations, 4 worldwide #1 hits and over 70 million in sales. Now reunited again, they continue to take their smooth yet rootsy blend around the world and their live performances never fail to uplift the audience.
UB40’s chart hits include Red Red Wine, Cherry Oh Baby, Kingston Town, (I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You, I Got You Babe, One in Ten, Rat in Mi Kitchen, If It Happens Again, Homely Girl…and the list goes on!

The 2017 Taupo Historic GP will feature:
- Pre-1978 Formula One Cars, all but three of them from Europe, the USA and Australia; and
- Formula 5000 Cars (1968-1976). Some 8-10 cars from the USA and Australia are expected to join the local field of 20-25 cars. This means that we may witness some of the biggest F5000 grids ever seen, even in the 1970s – see www.f5000.co.nz for details.
The F1s and F5000s will combine for a revival of the Race of Champions that was held annually at Brands Hatch from 1965 to 1979. Bruce McLaren won the race in one of his F1 cars in 1968. A Formula 5000 beat the F1s only once (Peter Gethin in 1973) and the Chevron B24 driven by Gethin to that historic victory is expected to be entered in the Race of Champions Revival by current owner, Englishman Greg Thornton.
